In the decades of working with individuals struggling with eating disorders I’ve learned that no two individuals are the same. Eating disorders are almost always the end point of a complex equation of social, emotional, spiritual, and physiological factors. While the vast majority of people recover and live full lives, the route to recovery is different from person to person.
What we do know is along with personalized treatment and lots of support people suffering from eating disorders benefit greatly from learning DBT skills. Whether it’s learning how to sooth strong emotions, develop positive relationships, cope with the stresses of a full life, or cultivate spiritual strength, the practice of DBT skills helps.
